Girls Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is looking for a Program Director for their 2019 Summer Day Camp Program.
$5,600 for the Camp Season.
The 2019 Day Camp is from June 4 -August 23, and the day camp shift is 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho has been serving girls since 1937. Our Summer Day Camp operates out of our Program Center in Spokane, which houses a full size gymnasium, teaching kitchen, computer lab, art studio, rock climbing wall, and an overnight hostel with its own kitchen. Over 300 girls each summer ages 5-17 enjoy a weekly themed program that includes STEM, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, swimming, hiking, and other skill-building fun.


Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Program Director is responsible for developing programming and coordinating program schedules for camper groups each week. Throughout the day, the Program Director greets community partners, works with the Unit Directors on programs, and ensures that paperwork and supplies for all field trips and activities are complete.

$5,600 for the Camp Season.


  • Attends to safety of campers at all times; follows and instructs campers on procedures for incidents and emergencies
  • Follows and implements behavior management procedures with all campers
  • Helps supervise campers; assists as needed with breaks for unit staff
  • Develops all-camp weekly programs in coordination with Unit Directors; works with Assistant Camp Director and Camp Director to finalize community partnerships and trips
  • Meets with Unit Directors on Mondays to develop trip schedules, coordinate van usage, and create supply lists for the week
  • Drives campers in Girl Scout vehicles as needed for field trips; provides extra supervision on trips outside of camp
  • Coordinates with Assistant Camp Director to plan and lead Unit Director meetings twice a week
  • Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assists with formal performance reviews with counselors in partnership with the Unit Directors and Assistant Camp Director
  • Processes counselor supply requisitions, manages unit budgets, and purchases supplies for activities
  • Follows procedures and communicate with parents at camper drop off and release
  • Leads flag ceremonies, all-camps, and makes announcements when Assistant Camp Director or Camp Director are not present
  • Assists Assistant Camp Director with snack and lunch responsibilities daily.
  • Reports concerns and incidents to Camp Director
  • Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
  • Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Education/Experience:
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • One (1) year experience working with girls ages 5-17 through camp, day care, or teaching.
  • One (1) year experience in a supervisory role and demonstrates the ability to supervise other staff members, including giving appropriate feedback, providing a positive role model and addressing challenges quickly and professionally
  • Ability to grasp the landscape within an organization, show passion for working with Girl Scouts and the nonprofit environment and expertise in using various communication vehicles that engage girls, volunteers, parents, donors and the community
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA

Physical Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly lift objects up 30 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch while performing custodial duties. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, up to 12 hours, and work in inclement weather. Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness)

    Mental & Other Skills/Abilities:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the:

  • Multi-Tasking Ability: ability to handle many diverse tasks/projects at one time; ability to prioritize and complete them on time.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee lives for up to 12 weeks in close proximity to others, including sharing living quarters, restrooms, laundry facilities and a common staff lounge. May only use personal electronics (such as computers, phones and other devices) only during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers. Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment is an integral part of this position, as is the ability to work with high-stress situations based on the nature of GSEWNI mission and daily work.
