Girls Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is looking for a Program Specialist for beautiful Camp Four Echoes, summer resident camp 2021 - Approximately $3,025.00 plus room and board for the Camp Season.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho has been serving girls since 1937. Our Resident Camp operates at Camp Four Echoes, a council-owned property of over 200 acres near Worley, ID. Over 500 girls each summer ages 5-17 enjoy programs in STEM, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, swimming, boating, hiking, and other skill-building fun. Each session, girls lead the way by planning their own activities with their camper group. Each week has a theme and campers plan activities and meals related to that theme. Camp Four Echoes, a girl scout camp, is located on the wooded shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Six living units house 18-24 girls weekly. Each unit has flush toilets and running water, but no electricity. Meals are provided in a group setting in our central dining hall. We also have a staff lounge for your time off.

All staff live on-site June 13 - August 16 for the 2021 Camp Season - *Dates subject to change according to position.


Under the direction of the Program Director, the Program Specialist is responsible for providing support of camp staff and girls ages 5-17 in all aspects of camp’s program. This position supports Unit counselor staff by creating and implementing various programs for campers including archery, ropes course, art, STEM activities, and more! Program specialists support staff at all times, and substitute as a unit counselor as needed to provide staff breaks. This position is also accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of the participants in their group. The Program Assistant Trips and Transportation exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.


  • Assists in providing ten days of staff training prior to the arrival of campers, focusing primarily on instructing staff on how to prepare their campers and their group in general for a variety of tripping opportunities. This instruction will include scheduling, outdoor skills, archery, STEM, and arts and crafts:
    • Leads the staff in several hours of group-building and challenge activities focusing on creating a functional team capable of increased empathy, communication and support. Culminate staff training with an opportunity to complete several elements on the camp challenge course
    • Leads the staff through the basics of a successful archery program and how to support archery activities with campers
  • Attends to safety of campers at all times; follows and instructs staff on procedures for incidents and emergencies that may occur on trips
  • Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities
  • Assists unit staff in scheduling and carrying out weekly age-appropriate programming requirements
  • Is responsible providing arts, crafts and STEM programming to girls. Prepares staff for supporting campers during all arts and STEM activities.
  • Is responsible for planning and implementation of archery and challenge course programs. Assists unit staff in scheduling and carries out weekly age-appropriate archery and challenge programming requirements
  • Instructs Unit Staff on how to teach and encourage campers to progress in independent and group living skills such as caring for equipment, proper use of supplies and equipment, clean up and following safety guidelines.
  • Engages all campers in games, crafts, or other activities at all times (including during the girls’ down time, meals, all-camp activities, clean-up, etc.)
  • Attends all meals with campers in the dining hall or during cook-outs. Teaches and models table manners, appropriate meal conversation and positive social interactions
  • Models personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property
  • Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures when interacting with all campers
  • Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
  • Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks
  • Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper and camp needs first.
  • Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults.
  • Actively participates in staff trainings, meetings, and camp closing activities, including but not limited to deep cleaning, lifting or moving equipment, taking out trash and closing inventory
  • Reports concerns and incidents to Assistant Camp Director-Program
  • Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
  • Attends weekly scheduling meetings with Unit Leaders
  • Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • 21 years of age or older preferred


  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability required if over 21
  • One (1) year experience working with girls ages 5-17 through camp, day care, or teaching.
  • Ability to grasp the landscape within an organization, show passion for working with Girl Scouts and the nonprofit environment and expertise in using various communication vehicles that engage girls, volunteers, parents, donors and the community
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA

Work Environment:

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee lives for up to 12 weeks in close proximity to others, including sharing living quarters, restrooms, laundry facilities and a common staff lounge. May only use personal electronics (such as computers, phones and other devices) only during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers. Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is an integral part of this position, as is the ability to work with high-stress situations based on the nature of GSEWNI mission and daily work.
